My son is 10 yrs of age. He has Dravet Syndrome and Autistic. He was diagnosed with Dravet syndrome at the age of 2. It is a rare form of epilepsy. Summers for us as a family looks very different. Sadly he cannot play outside when it is hot out. So for the summer time his in indoors. Once cool weather comes around that means freedom and we are able to take him out. Sadly that is the time when sickness goes around so he is prone to getting upper respiratory infections easier than other kids. He can end up in the hospital for months on end. He is wheelchair bound to a certain point. His feet have curved in over the past couple of years so it has affected his mobility to walk and his gait. He cannot do long distances but he moves around the best he can. He doesn't have the freedom that his kid sister does but when he sees her ride her bike he gets this grin on his face and glimmer in his eyes. His always asking for a bicycle. A customized bike would be awesome for him to have. It would give him some freedom and feel like a normal child for a day. He has been through a lot the past ten years something that no child should go through at an early age. We have almost lost him a few times. Something that a parent should never experience in there life time. I understand that we are not the only ones entering this contest but it would mean the world to our son to have something of his that is not medically related.
