Curren Ramsey

Fundraising for Curren R's Mobility & Access Duet

Curren is 6 years old and loves to be in constant motion! He was born with a super rare disorder that has made mobility a challenge. Curren is happiest when he's on the move, and thoroughly enjoys riding horses, adaptive surfing, playing adaptive baseball, and being outside. He wants more than anything to be able to do what his brother and friends can do, and this adaptive bike would open so many doors for Curren!

Today is World Rare Disease Day and we are raising awareness for HIVEP2 disorder. The HIVEP2 gene provides instructions for making a protein that functions as a transcription factor. Transcription factors attach (bind) to specific regions of DNA and help control the activity (expression) of particular genes. The HIVEP2 protein is most abundant in the brain, where it controls the expression of multiple genes, many of which are involved in brain growth and development. This protein may also play a role in the function of immune system cells and the process of bone remodeling, in which old bone is broken down and new bone is created to replace it. It may also be involved in other body processes; however these additional roles are not completely understood. A mutation of the HIVEP2 gene will cause intellectual disability, significantly delayed development with motor skills and speech development, behavioral difficulties, and low muscle tone. Today we know of 68 total cases around the world. Please help our small group spread awareness today!
