On Easter, about 10 years ago, Finn was given a Radio Flyer with the pedals hacksawed off so he could walk it around his home and community. His world expanded and his independence thrived. From then on, Finn was always riding bikes (thanks, Shellac!). He outgrew several Italtrikes, and last fall he finally outgrew his trusty Mobo. We had a makeshift funeral procession in the rain (dude rides rain, sun, sleet, or snow) when we knew for sure it was too small (pictured). His bikes are tools for adventure, athleticism, self-confidence, action/adventure scenes (thanks, Andrew Bird), and mapping his world.
The bike that is suitable for him now, according to the good folks at The Bike Shop and their demonstrations and seating clinic at the Abilitations Expo, is the Freedom Concepts Discovery Series, a $3000+ model available through the Great Bike Giveaway. You can vote for him or donate directly. He'd jump for joy if you helped him get a new bike.
The first time my son experienced the freedom of independent mobility outside was when he was given a Radio Flyer with the pedals hacksawed off on Easter, 10 years ago. He thrived on Italtrikes, and when he outgrew them, his trusty Mobo. Last fall, we had a makeshift funeral procession for the Mobo when we knew for sure it was too small. His bikes are tools for adventure, self-confidence, action/adventure scenes (thanks, Andrew Bird), and mapping his world. He is ready for a new one.
